Application Instructions

The UGA IFP is not your typical college class – the program requires you to adapt to a whole new learning environment.  We’ve found that the students who get the most out of the IFP are enthusiastic and open to discovering new ways of thinking, learning, and connecting ideas. If you love being outdoors, are curious about the natural world, and are ready to give up air-conditioned auditoriums and PowerPoint lectures for a hands-on education in America’s most treasured scenic areas, then we want you to apply!

The IFP application includes our application and course selection forms, two references, and your transcript. There is no application fee.

Deadlines

We will review applications based on three separate application deadlines for Summer 2018. The earlier you complete your application, the better your chances of reserving a spot with the program.

  • December 1, 2017 – Complete your application by this date to gain December admission to the program. If we accept you into the program, we will ask you to pay the $500 deposit by 2/1/18. Otherwise, your application will be re-considered in February.
  • February 1, 2018 – Complete your application by this date to gain February admission to the program. If we accept you into the program, we will ask you to pay the $500 deposit by 3/1/18. Otherwise, your application will be re-considered in March.
  • March 1, 2018 – This is our final deadline for program application (if we still have spots available). If you are accepted into the program, the final deadline for payment of the $500 deposit is Friday March 16, 2018.

It may be possible to apply for the IFP later in March or April if we still have spots available. Please contact us during these months to see if we still have room.

References

To accompany your application, we will need to hear from TWO people who can serve as references for you. Try to choose people who have worked with you in some outdoor, group travel, academic, or work-related capacity. For example teachers, employers, coaches, or camp counselors can make good references. Generally references from friends and family are not acceptable. Our application form asks for email addresses for your two references, so we can contact them directly. Alternatively, you can send them the form below.
